Project 5: Idioms
I carried on my project by working experimentally. I found this poster design by Rudy VenderLans and James Towning in a typography book. I initially noticed it for the layout, which i thought i could work from. I used my saying 'two can play at that game' and create my own version using different elements from the poster. I thought it would be a good idea for me to stick to the idea of using a square (changed from the circle) as this is the shape i had been referring to this saying. I also hand-drawn the font as similarly as i could.
I found this piece of work in the same book, it was designed by the Why Not Associates. What i noticed about it was the shapes of the letters and how they had been cleverly joined together. I worked in a similar way by writing my phrase 'stuck in a rut' and linked the 'uck' together, where i then wrote the 'in a rut' part of the phrase in the C, as if it was stuck itself. I experimented with different ways of writing it.
