Graphical Portrait

Project 1: Graphical Portrait

The first task within Graphic Design was to work with a given partner and gather information on things such as their favourite colour(s), favourite words, interesting facts and much more. The information from my partner Ruby are:

  • Age: 18
  • Dark blue - favourite colour
  • Knitting - hobby
  • Lived in cyprus
  • Holidays to Florida (enjoy travelling)
  • 3 Tattoos
  • Hamster called Meatball
  • Avon - job for a month
  • Reading - hobby
  • True Bloody, Sherlock - favourite TV programmes
  • Girlfriend - 1 year 2 week relationship
  • Doesn't drive
  • Stepdad - in the army
  • Typography - big passion
  • English - favourite subject
  • Favourite number - 7

I began by working with the information i had to create a mood board. I used the colour red to represent the name of my partner, Ruby. The blue represents her favourite colour being a dark petrol blue. I used my own typography to write words such as 'seven' (her favourite number) and Ruby, her name. Magazine cut outs were also interesting to look at as they refer back to my information.

I began by experimenting with colour which then gave me a totally new idea. I found that the edges of the ripped paper looked slightly like the outline of islands on atlas maps which i can refer back to travelling, something Ruby enjoys.

My collage consisted of two colours, red and blue and then numbers/type and a favourite word 'manifesto'. The numbers were all odd. I ripped pieces of type out of magazines as it is something that interests and inspires Ruby. I wrote the word 'Seven' in my own type, unfortunately the end of this collage was cut off from the scanner.

I worked back in to a photocopy of my collage by making the word 'Seven' more bold and adding more  collage over the top.
