Identity

Project 2: Identity

The second day of Graphic Design was part of the ABC project. The task was to invent a logo for our Graphic Design group and possibly a name too. The best way to start this was by a spider diagram. Our initial ideas came from things such as the building we were in which was West Block - W132 to our classes favourite colours.

Working with a colour palette was something i had to cosider in my research. I began with the two colours blue and red as these were voted the most liked colours in our class. However, i also wanted to show some of my own choices therefore i experiemnted with different coloured inks and mixing them to create even more colours.

The shape we came up with was either a decagon or two pentagons. These both made the number 10 (10 sides in total) which is how many people we have in our class. I experiemtned with different ways of displaying these shapes and with different materials to draw them.

The name 'Graphic Design' or 'GD' was the first name the group came up with therefore i experimented with diferent ways of displaying this. Typography is something i experimented with too as i could decide to use my own text in my final logo.

I really liked the idea of using the W from West Block/W132 within my logo. One of my group members came up with this 'W' with arrows on either side. It looks really effectively and is something which could be developed even more. The pentagon around the 'W' was an idea i had as it lined up with the arrows, although it looks a little rough in this sketch but for a final piece i would tidy it up even more.
