Final Major Project - Contrasted Architecture

FMP - Contrasted Architecture

Working from this photograph above, taken in Camden town, I began to create more imagery to help me toward my final pieces.

I simplified the photograph by selecting the railings and turning them black, it created this silhouette effect of abstract lines, which would be lovely to work over with vibrant colours.

I added this bright circle (scanned in of the envelope cut out) so that I had some bright imagery over the black, I blended it so that is wasn't solid and the lines could still be seen through, even though they aren't as noticeable. The yellow/lime green against the black is very strong and effective.

I decided to experiment with adding shapes, in particular the ones from my type experiments, I did this so I could bring back in an element from these experiments, so that they weren't excluded fully. I find the grey maybe a little too subtle, it really takes away the attention off the black lines.

I feel the shape in this colour works more than the grey, maybe because it isn't as solid over the black lines, although it does blend in more to the circle so maybe after all it isn't something I will use.

This shape is definitely too solid over the image, however the areas where it makes the circle brighter is very lovely, I could just take that area to work with next.

This is definitely reaching more of a finished point, the black poles/lines stand out over the letter shape, and the areas the shape touches on the circle are very bright.

These experiments are very worthwhile, they have helped me with composition and layout, and especially colour. I want to use these further on in my project, maybe with text.
